For most small teams the best AI ad generator is the one built into the ad platform you already buy, plus one paid tool for volume. Meta Advantage+ creative and Google's Performance Max asset generation cost nothing beyond ad spend. Add AdCreative.ai if you need many on-brand static variants across platforms with a pre-launch score, or Canva if your team already designs there. Predis.ai and Pencil are the lowest-cost paid options per output, and The Brief (formerly Creatopy) suits teams that need display banner sets.
Key Takeaways
- The cheapest generators are free. Meta's Advantage+ creative offers "text generation, image expansion, image generation and image touch up" inside Ads Manager (Meta Advantage+ creative, retrieved 2026-10-16). Google says asset generation in Performance Max "is optional" (Google Ads Help, retrieved 2026-10-16).
- Paid tools count output differently. AdCreative.ai charges a credit per download, Predis.ai per credit, and Pencil per generation, so headline prices are not comparable until you normalize them (AdCreative.ai; Predis.ai pricing; Pencil pricing, all retrieved 2026-10-16).
- Cost per 100 outputs ranges from about $6 to $195. On monthly billing, Predis.ai Core works out to about $5.85 per 100 images and AdCreative.ai Starter to $195 per 100 downloads (calculated from the vendor pages above).
- Creatopy is now The Brief. Its pricing page says "Creatopy is now The Brief"; Create costs $29 a month billed annually with 5 brand kits (The Brief pricing, retrieved 2026-10-16).
- Pre-launch scores are vendor claims. AdCreative.ai advertises "over 90% accuracy" for performance prediction without publishing a method (AdCreative.ai, retrieved 2026-10-16).
What an AI ad generator should actually do
A small team buys an AI ad generator to beat ad fatigue: to put new creative into rotation every week without a designer. That means five jobs:
- Produce variants from one brief. Several angles and visual treatments, not one image.
- Stay on-brand. Load your logo, colors and fonts once and apply them every time.
- Output every placement size. At minimum 4:5 and 9:16 for Meta, plus 1:1 and the main display sizes if you run Google Display or LinkedIn.
- Write the copy too. Headlines and primary text matched to the image.
- Cost a known amount per usable creative. This is the part feature lists skip.
A tool that does the first four but makes you discard most outputs is expensive however low its sticker price. Use the cost table below, then divide by the share of outputs you actually keep.
How we compared them (one brief, every tool's documentation)
LogicBalls did not run campaigns or generate ads in these tools for this article. We compared them from vendor pricing pages, help docs and product pages read on 2026-10-16, against the five jobs above. For "cost per 100 creatives" we used each vendor's own unit (download, credit or generation) on monthly billing at the entry tier, and we say where a vendor's unit makes the number meaningless.
You can run the hands-on half yourself. Write one brief (audience, single promise, proof, offer, brand assets), put it through two or three shortlisted tools during their trials, and count how many outputs you would actually run. Our step-by-step brief template is in how to make ad creatives without a designer.
AdCreative.ai: best for volume and conversion scoring
AdCreative.ai generates static ads, banners, videos and UGC-style videos from your brand assets and a message, in many sizes at once. It pulls in your "logo, colors, fonts and style", scores creatives before launch, includes competitor insights on paid plans, and checks ads for "brand, platform & policy compliance" (AdCreative.ai, retrieved 2026-10-16). It connects to Meta, Google and LinkedIn ad accounts.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Yearly billing (per month) | Credits per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $39 | $20 | 20 (tiers up to 120) |
| Professional | $249 | $125 | 300 (tiers up to 600) |
| Ultimate | $999 | $500 | 300 (tiers up to 600) |
Source: AdCreative.ai pricing section, retrieved 2026-10-16. The page shows conflicting figures in places, including a $599 Ultimate price and differing brand counts, so confirm at checkout. Generation is unlimited, and "A credit is used when you download a generated ad creative." The 7-day trial includes 10 credits.
Best for: teams launching many static variants a month across Meta, Google and LinkedIn who want brand kits and a pre-launch score in one place. Not for: teams that need only a handful of creatives a month. At $195 per 100 downloads on Starter monthly billing, small volumes are cheaper elsewhere. Professional brings the cost to about $83 per 100. Our earlier explainer on how AdCreative.ai approaches Facebook ad CTR covers the scoring idea in more depth.
Canva Magic Studio: best if you already design in Canva
Canva is the market leader for non-designers, and its Magic Studio features add AI generation, writing and resizing to the editor many teams already use. A Pro plan lists at $18 a month or $144 a year with up to five brand kits and Magic Resize, and the Business plan at $25 per user a month with up to 100 brand kits (Style Factory's Canva pricing guide, updated July 21, 2026, retrieved 2026-10-16). Canva's own pricing page blocked automated access, and other sources list different Pro prices, so check before you buy.
Best for: teams that already have templates and brand kits in Canva and want faster variants and resizing without a new tool. Not for: teams that want the tool to decide what to make. Canva gives you control but no performance scoring or ad-account data, and you still drive the design.
Meta Advantage+ creative: free but locked to Meta
If you buy Meta ads, you already have a generator. Advantage+ creative uses Meta AI for "text generation, image expansion, image generation and image touch up" (Meta Advantage+ creative, retrieved 2026-10-16). Meta's 2024 announcement says text generation creates headline variations as well as primary text, and image expansion "is now available on Reels and Feed across both Instagram and Facebook" (Meta for Business news, retrieved 2026-10-16).
Neither page mentions a fee beyond your ad spend. Two cautions: Meta notes some enhancements may be "turned on by default", so check each ad's creative settings, and the output only runs on Meta's placements.
Best for: any team on Meta that wants more variants with zero setup. Not for: teams that need the same creative on Google, LinkedIn or TikTok, or that require approval on every word before it runs.
Google Ads asset generation in Performance Max
The Google equivalent generates "headlines, descriptions, and long headlines", images and logos inside Performance Max, and may create a video automatically if you do not supply one. It is "rolling out globally to advertisers who meet the criteria", requires the Google Ads interface in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish, and excludes sensitive categories. Google says you "should review any generated or suggested assets" (Google Ads Help, retrieved 2026-10-16).
Best for: small teams already running Performance Max that are short on assets. Not for: creative you want to reuse elsewhere, or accounts in excluded categories.
Predis.ai, Creatopy (now The Brief) and Pencil
Predis.ai
Predis.ai generates social posts, ads and short videos from a prompt, with brands that hold your logo, colors and tone. On 2026-10-16 its pricing page listed (Predis.ai pricing):
- Core: $19 a month ($230 a year), 1,300 credits, about 325 images or 33 videos, 1 brand.
- Rise: $40 a month ($474 a year), 3,200 credits, about 800 images or 80 videos, up to 4 brands.
- Enterprise+: $212 a month ($2,540 a year), 10,000 credits, unlimited brands.
The monthly prices are shown against higher struck-through prices, so they may be promotional. "Every plan starts with 3 days free", a card is required, and payments after the trial are non-refundable.
Best for: lowest cost per image, and teams that want organic social and ads in one tool. Not for: teams that want a long free evaluation. Three days is short.
The Brief (formerly Creatopy)
The Brief keeps Creatopy's strength in producing ad sets across many sizes, and adds AI image, video, copy and resize generation on all plans (The Brief pricing, retrieved 2026-10-16):
- Create: $29 a month billed annually ($348), 1 seat, 5 brand kits, 100 bulk downloads.
- Amplify: $79 a month billed annually ($948), 1 seat, 20 brand kits, 1,000 bulk downloads.
- Collaborate: $49 per seat a month billed annually, 2 to 10 seats.
Designs are unlimited, and the trial is 7 days with no card required.
Best for: teams running display banner sets in many sizes, and small agencies with several brands. Not for: solo founders who only run Meta ads. The resizing depth matters less there.
Pencil
Pencil is a self-serve AI ad generation platform, with a Pro tier that adds custom pricing and unlimited generations for larger teams. Its pricing on 2026-10-16 (Pencil pricing):
- Core: $14 a month ($11 billed annually), 50 generations.
- Growth: $55 a month ($44 billed annually), 250 generations.
- Pro: custom pricing, unlimited generations.
Unused generations "do not roll over", and you can "create six ads through a guided experience, completely free".
Best for: small teams that want a low entry price and a free look before paying. Not for: high-volume static production, where per-generation pricing adds up.
Cost per 100 usable creatives compared
Entry-tier monthly billing, as read on 2026-10-16. "Output" is each vendor's own unit. Divide by your keep rate to get cost per usable creative. For example, if you keep 1 in 4 outputs, multiply the cost by 4.
| Tool | Entry plan (monthly) | Unit | Cost per 100 outputs | Brand kit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meta Advantage+ creative | $0 beyond ad spend | n/a | $0 (Meta only) | Uses your ad's assets |
| Google PMax asset generation | $0 beyond ad spend | n/a | $0 (Google only) | Uses your site and assets |
| Predis.ai Core | $19 | Credits (~325 images) | ~$5.85 | 1 brand |
| Pencil Core | $14 | Generations (50) | $28 | Workspace |
| The Brief Create | $29 (annual) | Unlimited designs | Flat fee | 5 kits |
| Canva Pro | ~$18 | Not credit-metered for design | Flat fee | Up to 5 kits |
| AdCreative.ai Starter | $39 | Downloads (20) | $195 | 1 brand |
| AdCreative.ai Professional | $249 | Downloads (300) | ~$83 | 10 brands |
These figures are arithmetic on the vendor's listed allowance, not measured output. A generation in Pencil, a credit in Predis.ai and a download in AdCreative.ai are not the same amount of work. AdCreative.ai only charges for what you download, so its keep rate is effectively 100% of what you pay for.
When a human is cheaper
If you find yourself discarding most AI output, or need video edited from real footage every month, a design subscription can beat these tools on cost per usable creative. Flocksy sells creative time by the hour: its smallest plan is $1,199 a month billed annually ($1,699 monthly) for 42 hours, with unlimited requests and revisions and a 14-day refund window (Flocksy pricing, retrieved 2026-10-16). That only makes sense once your ad spend is large enough to carry it.
Which tool fits which team
| Your situation | Start with | Add if needed |
|---|---|---|
| Solo founder, Meta ads only, small budget | Meta Advantage+ creative | Canva Free or Pro |
| Small team on Meta and Google | Advantage+ and PMax asset generation | AdCreative.ai Starter for cross-platform statics |
| Agency or brand testing 100+ variants a month | AdCreative.ai Professional | The Brief for display sets |
| Social-first brand, organic and paid | Predis.ai | Canva for edits |
| Team already in Canva | Canva Pro or Business | Advantage+ inside Meta |
| Spend high enough for human creative | Flocksy | AI tools for quick variants |
Whatever you pick, put a human check between the generator and the ad account. AI tools will write claims you cannot back up. The ad-intelligence tools in 5 must-have ad intelligence tools help you see what competitors run before you brief, and AI for advertising covers the copy side.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best free AI ad generator?
The ones built into the ad platforms. Meta Advantage+ creative generates text variations, expands and touches up images, and can generate image variations inside Ads Manager. Google Performance Max can generate headlines, descriptions, images and logos for eligible accounts. Neither page lists a fee beyond ad spend, but each only works on its own platform.
Is AdCreative.ai worth the price for a small team?
It depends on volume. Starter is $39 a month for 20 downloads on monthly billing, about $195 per 100. Professional is $249 for 300, about $83 per 100, as read on 2026-10-16. It earns its price when you need many on-brand static variants across platforms. For a few ads a month, free platform tools or Canva cost less.
What happened to Creatopy?
Creatopy rebranded as The Brief. Creatopy's pricing URL now redirects to thebrief.ai, whose page says "Creatopy is now The Brief". Plans start at $29 a month billed annually for Create, with 5 brand kits and a 7-day trial that needs no card.
Can AI ad generators predict which ad will win?
Some claim to. AdCreative.ai advertises over 90% accuracy for its performance predictions but does not publish its method. Treat any score as a way to shortlist variants, then let a live test with a fixed budget decide. Your own results outrank any prediction.
How this guide was researched
We read the pricing pages, product pages and help documentation of AdCreative.ai, Predis.ai, The Brief (formerly Creatopy), Pencil and Flocksy, Meta's Advantage+ creative page and 2024 announcement, Google Ads Help on Performance Max asset generation, and a Style Factory guide to Canva pricing, all on 2026-10-16. Canva's own pricing page blocked automated access. The tools were compared from documentation, pricing and public sources, not hands-on testing, and cost-per-100 figures are calculated from listed allowances. LogicBalls may earn a commission from some links on this page, which does not change the order or our recommendations.
