Best Pitch Deck Software for Startup Fundraising

pitch deck softwarestartup fundraisingpresentation tools

On this page

For most founders the best setup is two tools: one to build the deck and one to send it. Gamma gets you from notes to a first draft fastest, Beautiful.ai keeps slides tidy without manual layout, and Pitch suits co-founders editing together. Send the finished deck through a tracked link (DocSend, or the analytics built into Pitch, Gamma Pro or Prezi Premium) so you know who actually read it.

If your investors expect an editable PowerPoint file, export early and check it. Every builder below documents something that changes on export.

Key Takeaways

  • Investors read fast. DocSend's research says investors spend "less than 3 minutes reviewing pitch decks these days" (Dropbox DocSend pitch deck research, retrieved 2026-10-16).
  • Gamma's free plan is a trial, not a workspace. It gives 400 credits that do not refresh, and paid plans remove the "Made with Gamma" badge (Gamma help, pricing, retrieved 2026-10-16).
  • Beautiful.ai has no free plan. Pro is $14.50 a month billed annually, with PowerPoint import and export on every seat (Beautiful.ai pricing, retrieved 2026-10-16).
  • Pitch tracks slide-level reading on Team. Its Team plan includes advanced links that "track visits, slide views, and time spent on slide" (Pitch pricing, retrieved 2026-10-16).
  • PowerPoint export is where decks break. Pitch's help center lists unsupported animations and fonts that may fall back to Calibri (Pitch help, retrieved 2026-10-16).

What investors expect in a deck

Before choosing software, decide what goes in the deck. The tool should make that structure fast to build, not replace it.

Sequoia's guidance lists ten sections: company purpose, problem, solution, why now, market potential, competition and alternatives, business model, team, financials, and vision (Sequoia, Writing a business plan, retrieved 2026-10-16). Add a title slide and an ask slide (how much you are raising and what it buys), and you have a 12-slide seed deck.

DocSend's research adds three practical constraints (Dropbox DocSend, retrieved 2026-10-16):

  • Investors spend "less than 3 minutes" on a deck.
  • In its 2020 pre-seed data, decks that raised were read for just over 4 minutes, against about 1 minute 30 seconds for decks that did not.
  • The typical deck runs about 20 pages with about 50 words per slide, and none of the successful decks had a table of contents.

So the job of the software is narrow: help you write a tight 12 to 20 slides, make them readable at a glance, and tell you what happened after you hit send.

A 12-slide build you can run in any tool

The angle we planned for this post was to build the same deck in every tool. Nobody at LogicBalls did that, so here is the method instead, so you can run it yourself in the free plans or trials before paying:

  1. Write the 12 slide headlines in a plain document first (one sentence each, the claim the slide proves).
  2. Paste them into each tool's AI or outline import and time how long it takes to reach a deck you would send.
  3. Replace one chart with your real numbers. See how hard the chart editor is.
  4. Export to PDF and PPTX. Open the PPTX in PowerPoint and Google Slides and list what moved.
  5. Share a tracked link with a co-founder and check what the analytics show.

The comparison below covers what each vendor documents for steps 4 and 5.

Gamma: fastest first draft

Gamma turns a prompt or pasted notes into a styled deck, which is why it suits founders who have the story but not the slides. Its plan structure, from Gamma's help center on 2026-10-16:

PlanCreditsNotable limits and features
Free400 one-time, do not refreshUp to 10 slides per prompt
Plus1,000 a monthUp to 100 slides per prompt; removes the badge
Pro4,000 a monthDetailed analytics, custom domains, API
Ultra20,000 a monthMonthly billing only

Annual plans carry "a 28% discount" over monthly, and subscriptions are per user (Gamma help, pricing, retrieved 2026-10-16). Gamma's pricing page blocked our requests, so dollar prices are not quoted here; check gamma.app/pricing before you buy.

Export: Gamma exports to "PDF, PNG, or PowerPoint (PPTX)", and to Google Slides by uploading the PPTX. Its help center lists what changes: Google Slides ignores embedded fonts, gradient headings may export as one color, italics are simulated, table corners turn square, and the slide master is blank. Speaker notes come across (Gamma help, export, retrieved 2026-10-16). Our Gamma review covers the PowerPoint export in more depth.

Not for: founders whose lead investor or banker will edit the file in PowerPoint, unless you budget time to fix the export.

Beautiful.ai: auto-formatting slides

Beautiful.ai is built around Smart Slides, which its site says "auto-align, resize, and animate your content as you edit" (Beautiful.ai, retrieved 2026-10-16). That matters more for a deck you will revise 30 times during a raise than for one draft.

Pricing on 2026-10-16: Pro $14.50 a month billed annually; Team $40 per user a month annually or $50 monthly; a single presentation for $45 one time; Enterprise custom. There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial that asks for a card. PowerPoint import and export is included on every seat. Pro includes viewer analytics, and Team adds slide-level analytics and engagement alerts (Beautiful.ai pricing, retrieved 2026-10-16).

The single-presentation option is worth noting for a founder raising once: one deck, paid once.

Not for: designers who want pixel-level control. The auto-layout that saves time also limits where you can place things.

Pitch: team collaboration

Pitch is the pick when two or three people edit the deck at once. Its site lists "live co-editing, slide assignments, and comments" (Pitch, retrieved 2026-10-16), and tracked sharing sits in the same tool.

Its pricing page showed euro prices to us on 2026-10-16: Free, Plus €10, Team €15 and Business €20 a month billed yearly, plus Enterprise. The free plan includes 100 AI credits that do not renew and brands PDF exports. Team includes 25 advanced links that "track visits, slide views, and time spent on slide", and Business makes those links unlimited (Pitch pricing, retrieved 2026-10-16).

PowerPoint export is described as "a premium feature". Animations are not supported, uploaded videos become thumbnails, fonts may fall back to Calibri, and charts may look different (Pitch help, retrieved 2026-10-16).

Not for: solo founders on a tight budget who only need a static PDF; the collaboration features are the point.

Prezi: when the deck is presented live

Prezi uses a zooming canvas instead of linear slides. That helps when you present to a room or on a video call and want to move between topics. It is a weaker fit for a cold-emailed deck, which investors skim in order.

Prezi's own blog listed individual plans on annual billing as Standard $7 a month, Plus $19, and Premium $29, with Teams at $39 per user per month. It says PDF export requires Plus or higher, and that Premium adds viewer analytics (Prezi blog, plans, retrieved 2026-10-16). Prezi's viewer analytics announcement (retrieved 2026-10-16) describes tracking viewer name or email when access is gated, total view time, time per topic, navigation order and drop-off point. Prezi's pricing page itself did not load for us.

Not for: a deck that has to survive as an editable PowerPoint file, or investors who expect a conventional slide order.

Canva

Canva is the default for founders who already use it for social posts and brand assets. Its templates are a quick way to get consistent branding across the deck and everything else you publish. Canva's pricing and help pages blocked our requests on 2026-10-16, so we have not quoted plan prices or export details; check both on canva.com before you rely on it for an editable PowerPoint file.

Not for: founders who want the tool to help write the story or to track who opened the deck. Canva is a design tool first.

Google Slides / PowerPoint

The plain options remain the safest for compatibility. If an investor or adviser wants an editable file, a native PowerPoint or Google Slides file avoids the export problems described above.

  • PowerPoint comes with Microsoft 365 Personal at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, and Family at $12.99 a month or $129.99 a year (Microsoft 365 plans, retrieved 2026-10-16).
  • Google Slides comes with Google Workspace: Business Starter $7, Standard $14 and Plus $22 per user per month on monthly billing, with 16% off for a one-year commitment (Google Workspace pricing, retrieved 2026-10-16).

Neither has built-in investor analytics, so pair either with DocSend or export a PDF into a tracked-link tool. Neither does layout for you, which is the time cost the AI tools are trying to remove.

Not for: founders who lose days nudging text boxes. That is the problem this post started with.

DocSend: tracking who reads it

DocSend, now part of Dropbox, is not a deck builder. It is where you upload the finished PDF and send a link instead of an attachment. Dropbox describes "page-by-page analytics to understand what resonates most in your pitch" (Dropbox, document tracking, retrieved 2026-10-16). That tells you which investor spent four minutes on your financials and which closed it at the team slide.

DocSend's plan prices did not load for us on 2026-10-16, and the product page offers a free trial. If you already pay for Pitch Team, Gamma Pro, Beautiful.ai or Prezi Premium, check whether their built-in analytics are enough before adding it.

Not for: founders sending a deck to five angels they already know. Tracking matters most when you send to dozens of funds.

Which to choose

  • First raise, solo founder, story not written yet: Gamma's free credits for a draft, then export a PDF.
  • Deck you will revise all through the raise: Beautiful.ai, or its single-presentation purchase.
  • Two or three founders editing: Pitch Team.
  • Sending to 30 or more funds: add DocSend or use a builder with slide-level tracking.
  • Investor asks for an editable file: finish in PowerPoint or Google Slides, whichever tool you started in.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best free pitch deck software?

Google Slides costs nothing with a personal Google account and exports to PowerPoint. Gamma's free plan gives 400 one-time credits, enough for a first AI draft, but adds a "Made with Gamma" badge. Pitch has a free plan with 100 AI credits and branded PDF exports. Beautiful.ai has no free plan.

A tracked link tells you who opened the deck and which slides they read, which helps you prioritize follow-ups. DocSend offers page-by-page analytics, and Pitch Team, Gamma Pro, Beautiful.ai and Prezi Premium include viewer analytics. Keep a PDF ready for investors who ask for a file.

How many slides should a seed pitch deck have?

Sequoia's guidance covers ten sections; with a title and an ask slide that is 12. DocSend's research found the typical deck runs about 20 pages with around 50 words per slide, and that investors spend under three minutes on a deck, so shorter and sparser is safer.

Can I export a Gamma deck to PowerPoint?

Yes. Gamma exports PDF, PNG and PPTX, and you can upload the PPTX to Google Slides. Its help center warns that embedded fonts, gradient headings, italics and table corners can change, and the slide master comes across blank. Open the exported file and fix it before sending.

How this guide was researched

We read vendor pricing pages and help-center articles for Gamma, Beautiful.ai, Pitch, Prezi, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Dropbox DocSend, Sequoia's business plan guidance, and DocSend's pitch deck research, on 2026-10-16. Gamma's, Canva's, DocSend's and Prezi's pricing pages did not load, so those prices are either taken from the vendor's own help center or blog or left out. Tools were compared from documentation, pricing pages and public information, not hands-on testing. LogicBalls may earn a commission from some links in this guide, which does not change the order or the recommendations.
