SANTA MONICA, Calif. & SAN FRANCISCO — In a move set to redefine social discovery, Snap Inc. (NYSE: SNAP) and Perplexity have announced a major partnership to bring AI-powered search directly into Snapchat. Beginning in early 2026, Snapchat users will gain access to Perplexity’s conversational AI answer engine, allowing them to explore topics, ask real-time questions, and receive verified, conversational answers — all within the Snapchat app.

Perplexity Powers the Next Era of Snapchat AI Search

Through this partnership, Perplexity’s AI engine will integrate into Snapchat’s chat interface, giving its nearly 1 billion monthly active users a new way to discover and learn without leaving the platform. The collaboration represents Snapchat’s first large-scale integration with an external AI company — a major step toward expanding its in-app AI capabilities.

The AI-driven search tool will allow users to ask questions conversationally and receive sourced answers drawn from reliable web data, bridging the gap between social interaction and intelligent discovery.

“Perplexity’s mission is to support the world’s curiosity,” said Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity. “Millions of people connect and discover the world through Snapchat. By bringing Perplexity to Snapchat, we’re able to serve that curiosity directly where it occurs.”

Snapchat Strengthens Its AI Ecosystem

According to Snap Inc., the partnership underscores the company’s growing role as a trusted AI platform for reaching a mobile-first audience. With over 943 million monthly active users and more than 75% of 13–34-year-olds using Snapchat in over 25 countries, the app presents a massive opportunity for AI companies looking to engage younger, tech-savvy users.

Under the agreement, Perplexity will pay Snap $400 million over one year, through a combination of cash and equity, as the integration rolls out globally. Snap expects revenue contributions to begin in 2026.

“Our goal is to make AI more personal, social, and fun — woven into the fabric of your friendships, Snaps, and conversations,” said Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap Inc. “This partnership reflects our shared vision for the power of AI to enhance discovery and connection on Snapchat.”

How Snapchat AI Search Will Work

The new Snapchat AI search experience, powered by Perplexity, will appear alongside the existing My AI chatbot within the chat interface. While My AI focuses on personalized assistance and entertainment, Perplexity’s engine will specialize in delivering factual, real-time answers with citations.

Snapchatters can expect:

  • Conversational, credible responses directly inside chat

  • AI-powered discovery of new topics and trends

  • Personalized insights that improve with continued interaction

Messages sent to Perplexity will also contribute to enhancing Snapchat’s personalization algorithms, creating a more relevant and engaging in-app experience.

A Step Toward AI-Integrated Social Platforms

The collaboration marks a significant milestone in Snap’s vision of transforming Snapchat into a hub for trusted AI integrations. It signals a future where social platforms double as knowledge engines, merging entertainment, education, and interaction in one place.

This move also reflects a broader trend in the tech industry: AI-powered search and discovery experiences are rapidly becoming core to how users navigate apps. With this partnership, Snapchat positions itself as an innovator in AI-driven social discovery — setting the stage for future integrations with other leading AI partners.

Key Takeaway

The Snap-Perplexity partnership marks the beginning of a new era in AI-powered discovery. By embedding Snapchat AI search directly into the chat experience, the companies are redefining how people learn, connect, and explore online — one conversation at a time.
